Inclusion in Collaborating Districts Initiative
Austin Independent School District (AISD) in Austin, TX, and Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) in Nashville, TN, are two of eight districts selected by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), a national non-profit organization, to be part of its Collaborating Districts Initiative (CDI). The CDI is designed to document the programs and processes that lead to high quality social-emotional learning (SEL) in preschool through grade 12.
After selection, AISD and MNPS sought SEL curricula that best reflect the SEL Competencies and provide interactive, engaging, and effective lessons. The districts chose School-Connect for implementation in grades 9-12. Over the next several years School-Connect co-authors and trainers, Kathy Beland and Julea Douglass, will work collaboratively with district personnel and high schools to support School-Connect implementation in freshman seminars, advisory classes, and student leadership groups.
